Welcoming the Plein Aire Cottage Artists to Kind Sun!

I'm so excited to announce that my redesigned Kind Sun Studio online gallery will feature local works of the lovely and amazing Plein Aire Cottage Artists of Indian Rocks Beach!

If you are not familiar with the Plein Aire Cottage Artists, you should be. They have been creating beautiful original oil paintings of our unique cottages and sandy beach trails on IRB since I first moved here more than 20 years ago. I first discovered their paintings while working at Guppy's (their IRB cottage paintings adorned the walls of the restaurant when it was still coming into its own.) The three artists - Mary Rose Holmes, Helen Tilston, and Violetta Chandler started a bit of a movement back then when they became disheartened with the increasing destruction of the old Florida-style beach cottages that give our small town its charm. The quaint cottages were being "smashed" and replaced with large homes and condos at a pace that was quickly altering the character of the town. With their flowing skirts and sun hats, the Artists set up their easels along Gulf Boulevard and began painting the cottages "en Plein Aire" in an attempt to preserve their beautiful memory and highlight their importance.

The Artists have garnered attention from all over the area and abroad. They have had many news and feature articles written about their work (see some of them here), and two documentaries including "Save our Cottages - Artists with a Cause" by the Emmy Award-Winning team of Lynn Marvin Dingfelder and Larry Wiezycki which was awarded the "People's Choice Award" at the Gasparilla Film Festival in 2019 and winner of the "Best Florida Documentary" at St. Petersburg's Sunscreen Film Festival in 2020.

Needless to say, I'm pretty proud to offer a selection of their local paintings, most painted right here on Indian Rocks Beach. Each piece is an original work of art, full of inspiration and love, and signed by the artist. Please visit my website to learn more about the Artists and view the local pieces available for sale. While you are there, subscribe to my email list so that you will be among the first to know when new pieces become available. (Follow Kind Sun Studio on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as well.)

Please enjoy, and thank you for supporting local art.

Kind Regards XOXO,

Andrea Harms
